
Bruce believes that strong public schools benefit both students and the community
The thirty-three years Bruce Hedison spent as a public school teacher confirmed his belief that all students deserve an education that helps them realize their potential and offers them opportunities to engage productively with their community. Bruce knows that delivering this high standard of education requires us as a community to make sure that our schools have the resources they need. Bruce followed in the footsteps of his mother, who taught elementary school for 35 years. After retiring she continued to actively engage with students in the community, serving as a substitute until the age of 80. After relocating to Newton upon retirement to be closer to his brother, David, Bruce continues to follow his mother’s example, working to advance public education in our community.Bruce builds excellence in education
Bruce began his career as a Technology teacher in Hudson, Massachusetts. Enabling hands-on learning was a hallmark of Bruce’s teaching style; that passion for experiential learning and innovation has shaped his career. Bruce led efforts to use a grant from the National Science Foundation to develop a pioneering Robotics program that introduced students to the fundamentals of physics and robotics through engaging, practical experiences. The Hudson High School Robotics program that Bruce founded marked the beginning of electives in STEM education in the district.
Bruce is an innovator both in and out of the classroom
Bruce integrated community-service learning into his teaching and fostered student creativity and leadership in his role as class advisor. In 2013, Bruce became a founding member of Peru Crew, which has facilitated trips to the Peruvian Amazon for over 200 high-school students.

Because of his dedication to student learning, Bruce is committed to fostering a fair and supportive work environment for educators. His long career in public schools has given him the experience to know that a positive working environment for educators enables them to deliver excellent education for students. Teacher retention is critical for excellent schools. Bruce was an active board member of the Hudson Municipal Credit Union. He served as the chairperson of the Municipal Insurance Advisory Council and as President of the Hudson Teachers Association. He was instrumental in negotiating contracts through Interest-Based Bargaining.
Bruce holds a degree in technology education from Fitchburg State. A successful real estate agent, Bruce now leads a successful small business in property management and home renovations.
